Home Painting Project Tips

While it does take a lot of effort and hard work, painting your home is something most people can do. If your home has not been painted in awhile, you know that a painting project can be a challenge. If you make the time to do it, you can save a lot of money. If you feel that you don’t have the time, then you should consider hiring someone.

Preparation is Key

Eventually the coloring on your wall will start to peel or perhaps warp and look ugly. In fact, your single option is to scrape the paint off your wall. For those who have an older home, there’s every chance that you have layers of old paint beneath your current one. This is a more challenging job if the previous paint was an oil-based paint. When you get your peeled paint stripped off, and scraped as best as you’re able, then you need to putty the holes in the wood, spackle the bare spots in the drywall, and next, sand it as good as you can. Upon having completed this, wash off the dust and let it dry. You really should wait 24 hours before it dries entirely.

Remove Moisture

One of the bigger issues with older homes is from moisture build-up. You may find paint splits if your home has excessive condensation or leaks. You will notice this frequently in the bathroom, where mold and mildew will also grow. Though normally found in the bathroom, you may have this problem in other parts of your house. When you have a leak or bushes that are too close to your house, you will experience paint cracks. If your paint happens to be cracking as a result of moisture build-up, you will need a different solution. Since you will most likely have mildew, and if it is on the inside, you will need a solution consisting of one part bleach and three parts water. If it is outside the home, just use the solution that accompanies a pressure washer.

Color Selection

You will probably have to repaint in the event the paint on your home is fading. This typically happens outside when you have direct sun almost daily. To prevent fading, do not employ bright or bold colors like red. If you would like some sort of rich color, find one with a ruddy tone or golden.

You shouldn’t ever let your home get into bad shape. Do the best to keep the paint on your house looking vibrant and stop any leaks from damaging your paint job.
